Yamato was introduced in the manga during the Wano Country Arc. She is also known as the Oni Princess. She is the daughter of one of the Four Emperors of the Sea and the highest bounty pirate in the world, Kaidou.
From the age of eight, she idolized the legendary Samurai, Kozuki Oden, and wanted to become like him. This was when she witnessed the death of Kozuki Oden while saving a Samurai.

Yamato’s Devil Fruit
In the recent Chapter 1020, Kaidou reveals how Yamato ate the devil fruit, which was not part of the plan. The fruit was for someone else.

The Devil Fruit of Yamato is called the Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Okuchi no Makami. This Devil Fruit is the second model of the regular Zoan type. It is a Mythical Zoan – type Devil Fruit that gives the user the ability to transform into a divine wolf.
The other form of the transformation is the human-divine wolf hybrid. She ate the fruit because she was hungry, and the beast transformation is described as the “Guardian Deity of Wano Country” by Kaidou.
The Zoan type of Devil Fruits significantly boosts Yamato’s physical abilities, nearly equivalent to a beast. It also increases her instincts and skills to react quickly. She can use the element of ice to protect herself as well as attack her enemies. The manga has not shown any weaknesses of the devil fruit, apart from the usual liability of a devil fruit user.
